Recently I had to opportunity to get out on Lake Ontario for an exciting day of Lake Trout fishing with Mike Robillard of Fin Freaks.

The day started off early, 4:30am rise for the two hour drive to our launch point on Lake Ontario.

It was an absolutely beautiful sunny calm crisp April morning and we knew we had great weather before the afternoon wind would pick up.

We waited for a few buddies to join in a second boat behind us, then we were off to chase the giants.

It was early in the season so we were still trying to figure out their patterns…but before long we were into them!

The first few were under 10lbs hitting watermelon colours off of a dipsy diver while slow trolling.

If you have never caught a Lake Trout, there are a few different varieties in Lake Ontario and all have absolutely gorgeous colouring on them from Silver with colours in them to Yukon with beautiful yellow fins.

After boating the “little” guys, we headed to a few other locations in search of a trophy sized catch.

We let out our lines on dipsy divers and downriggers, Goby and Watermelon colours.

And then it was mayhem!

Double header, triple header!

We were into the double digits in weight, 13lbs, 15lb, then our absolute beast at 22.8lbs!
